Spend a day designing and making two completely bespoke lampshades.
This workshop is all about understanding how light, fabric, shape and scale work together. Through colour and light theory, design techniques and plenty of practical making, you will learn how to create lampshades that suit both your home and your personal style.
TO BOOK
Unlike many lampshade workshops, you will not be working from pre-cut kits or fixed sizes. Instead, you will design and make two lampshades from scratch, choosing the shape, size and proportions that work best for your project.
By the end of the day you will have made a drum lampshade and a cone lampshade using professional lampshade-making techniques and modern PVC or card backing, along with the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring your own ideas.
ON THE DAY
We will explore how light interacts with fabric, colour and pattern, and how different linings can dramatically change the appearance of a lampshade when lit.
You will make two lampshades, one drum and one cone.
Both lampshades will be completely your own design. You will choose the size, shape and proportions, then cut the fabric and backing to fit. No pre-cut kits here.
Choose from a wide range of fabrics available in the studio, or bring your own and we can discuss whether it is suitable for lampshade making.
All materials are included.
Bring your own lunch. Refreshments will be provided.
YOUR IDEAS
If you have a particular project in mind, please get in touch and we can discuss whether it will be achievable in this workshop.
Feel free to bring your own fabric and we can see if it is suitable. Cotton works particularly well, although many other textiles can be used successfully. I generally recommend avoiding silk, as it can separate from the backing over time.
